Adoption Process

Complete Application
If you have decided you want to submit an application, please click the button below that will lead you to our online adoption application. Once your application has been completed and submitted, it will take a few days to be processed. We will reach out to you about the approval of your application. This does not guarantee adoption. We are seeking the best home, not necessarily first come, first serve. Adopters are expected to travel to us (Charlotte) if out of town.
-
Processing
Once we receive your application, we will follow up via email or phone if we have any questions. Part of our process is a vet check where we ensure existing animals in your home are up to date on vaccines and preventatives. We also ask that you provide personal references that we may contact.
-
Meet & Greet
For the safety of our fosters and animals, an approved application is required to schedule a meet and greet.
-
Finalize Contract
Following the meet & greet, you may choose to take home the animal same day, sleep on it, or opt to proceed with an adoption trial. When you are ready to make it official, you will be sent and asked to sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee via tax deductible donation. Our adoption fee is $300 for most dogs.

Duncan spent 6 weeks at our local Animal Control before his fosters picked him to take home. His personality is still emerging but so far we know he loves playing with his rope, chewing on a bone, & playing fetch in the yard. You should see his little hops! Duncan is such a great boy inside the house too. He will curl up in a ball and sleep while his fosters eat dinner or do everyday activities. He is also used to being crated 8-5 while his fosters are at work. He’s housebroken! Though he’s not currently fostered with other dogs, he is dog friendly and loves a good game of chase. He could use some work with leash manners so a yard is a plus.
Duncan is a 2 year old, pittie mix, who is ~60lbs. He’s neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccines & prevention.
Meet Duncan !
You’d never guess Max likely spent most of his life outdoors before he was brought to rural county shelter. The only reminder of his past is a scar on his neck likely from getting caught in a fence. Other than that he’s adjusted beautifully to his foster home. Though he keeps up on long walks around the neighborhood, he’s very docile and gentle indoors, preferring to sunbathe or sleep next to his humans. Though he peacefully coexists with his male & female similar sized foster siblings he seems to prefer females. Max also does great with kids as unexpected hugs or noises don’t phase him while out and about but older kids would be best in his forever home. He has a little bit of FOMO so a family where someone will be home most of the time would be ideal but he is housebroken and crate trained.
Max is a 3 years old, lab mix, who is ~50lbs. He’s neutered & microchipped, and UTD on vaccines & prevention.
Say hi to Max!
Ozzy joined The Foster Dog House from a rural NC shelter after being found as a stray and never reclaimed. It seems he may have been on the run for a bit as he's still got some weight to gain back. Typical for the breed he is always on the move and thrives with a yard to watch for birds & squirrels. He is a classic velcro GSP and follows his people everywhere and particularly enjoys napping on the couch.
He's a tall & strong German Shorthaired Pointer who likely needs a 6ft fence to be safe along with plenty of space and mental stimulation. He is used to sleeping in his crate and is housebroken. He’s a bit strong on a leash but does great in public settings. Slow introductions to other dogs are recommended or an only dog home.
Ozzy is around 2 years old, ~ 50 pounds, heartworm negative, UTD on vaccines, and neutered & microchipped.
GSP Ozzy!
Yes, Benny is a highly covered apricot mini goldendoodle but please read his entire bio to understand his needs. We are seeking an experienced adopter or dog professional to manage resource guarding tendencies.
Benny (fka Jordan) unfortunately recently returned to our rescue. He is a 1 year old mini goldendoodle. He is a people and dog friendly dog with playful energy to match. While yes he is adorable, he doesn’t like to share his food or high-value items but that can be managed in the proper environment (his previous adopters did not follow our instructions). 98% of the time it isn’t an issue but adopters need to be aware of potential triggers. He would benefit greatly from professional training (like most dogs) and we’re happy to refer you. Kids also make him anxious so we are seeking an adult only home. Any canine siblings will also need to be equally as playful and neutral about sharing items such as toys. He is a great car rider and in public settings, good in his crate, a bit strong on a leash, and has been fostered with big & small dogs. No cats!
Benny has recently been groomed, is UTD on vaccines, and neutered & microchipped.
Our dood Benny is back!
Maisy found herself at rural NC county shelter where a volunteer & foster met her and knew she wanted to help. She’s estimated to be around 6 months old and around 30 pounds. We don’t think she’ll grow too much more putting her at a comfortable medium size when fully grown. Your guess is as good as ours of what her breed mix might be.
Maisy is very affectionate and loves people. She also loves playing with other dogs and takes direction if her exuberance is too much. She is great in public and has been a frequent visitor at dog friendly stores where she’s made lots of friends. Though Maisy is a puppy she is not mouthy, walks great on a leash, and is already housebroken and crate trained.
Maisy’s foster family has even set her up for success by enrolling her in a 6 week basic obedience class as well as invested in private lessons to ensure she’s a well rounded girl with a great foundation for when she finds her forever home.
She is up to date on appropriate vaccinations, kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and has recently been spayed & microchipped!
Meet Maisy!
Lenny found himself at a rural SC county shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed. He was aptly named ‘scruffy’ due to his overgrown coat but as you can see he cleans up well! We can’t say for sure what mix he is but we’re labeling him as a schnoodle as our best guess (schnauzer-poodle). His coat will require routine grooming but is low shed.
We suspect Lenny had a home prior to joining our rescue given how good he’s been at his foster home. He loves people and napping on the couch. He is dog friendly and enjoys playing with his foster sister. He sleeps very soundly in his crate at night and when his fosters are at work. He is completely housebroken and he does great on leash! He’s truly a gem!
Lenny is a 40 pound, 2 year old, poodle mix fostered in Charlotte, NC. He is neutered & microchipped, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm negative and has been kept on flea/tick/heartworm prevention.
Our very own Lenny boy!
